Course Description

6th grade social science introduces students to the beginnings of the human story. As you explore the great early civilizations of Egypt and the Near East, India, China, Greece, and Rome, you will discover the legacy of these ancient cultures that continues to influence the modern world.

 

Unit 1: Early Humans – Thinking & Farming

Unit 2: Civilization Begins in Mesopotamia

Unit 3: Religion Shapes Ancient Egypt

Unit 4: Ideology & Unification in Ancient China

Unit 5: Social Class & Religion in Ancient India

Unit 6: Democracy & Rationality in Ancient Greece

Unit 7: Republicanism & Empire in Ancient Rome

 

Materials for Daily Use

  • textbooks, online text, docs in Canvas/Google folders
  • Device (able to access textbook, Drive, Canvas, etc.)
  • Folder/paper in binder, pencils/pens

  • Work hard

 

Grading Scale

A+    99-100%    B+    89-90%    C+    79-80%    D+    69-70%   F    0-60%

A    93-98%        B    83-88%      C    73-78%       D    63-68%

A-    91-92%       B-    81-82%    C-    71-72%      D-    61-62%  

The Social Studies grade is comprised of the following:

40%    Writing Assignments            20%    Homework    

30%    Tests/Quizzes/Projects        10%    Participation   

   

Homework Policy

Homework is late when it is not available to be checked or turned in at the beginning of class. The Junior High Extra Credit/Late Work Policy will be followed.  Should this become a chronic problem (i.e., more than one assignment missing at one time), students will be expected to attend Homework Center and/or come to their teacher’s classroom at lunch until they are in good standing.
